DECONSTRUCTION/RECONSTRUCTION

Skill level: Early Intermediate

Prerequisite skills: Mastery of home sewing machine; understanding of seam allowance and measurement; ability to cut accurately.

Are you ready to breathe new life into a treasured garment? Do you want to transform thrifted apparel into sophisticated sartorial finds?

Students will learn about sustainability and how to deconstruct and reconstruct old or thrifted clothing. Comfort with using a home sewing machine, measurement, and cutting is required.

Only 5 places!

Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.

Students will:

  • Learn how to piece apart and alter a garment;

  • Receive tips on how to design with thrifted or re-purposed garments and fabric;

  • Learn different methods of patching and mending for function and embellishment;

  • Practice hand sewing and machine sewing techniques for embellishment; and

  • Leave with a one-of-a-kind sustainable garment.

Bring two to four garments, which you will reimagine at this hands-on workshop.

A shopping list will be provided for students to purchase supplies ahead of class.
